Recently, I have spent a good deal of time working on template development for mobile phone websites. My first is for johnmcmullen.mobi and is automatically loaded if you are using a mobile phone like the iPhone or Droid (or any phone running Android OS).
One of the most exciting things I have discovered is that with a specially designed template you can use WordPress (the same CMS used for this site) for content management. This allows the site owner to edit and add content to their site with any desktop web browser … or even on their mobile phone!
These specially designed mobile websites allow you to do several things.
- The site looks much better on a mobile device. Pages to not have to be zoomed or pinched to fit the screen.
- Graphics can be optimized for faster viewing of pages and articles.
- Forces you to focus your content.
- If using WordPress, you can us RSS feeds to share your posts and allows users to subscribe.
